Give a Girl a Hand?

I hear people talk about how often you should do this or that and I realize I never quite measure up to their ridiculous standards, so I thought I’d put it out here for real people and see how you all do it and see if I at least measure up to you. I’ll give my answers at a later date.

  1. How often do you change your sheets?
  2. How often do you change your bathroom towels?
  3. How often do you buy new pillows?
  4. How often do you flip your mattress?
  5. How many minutes per week do you exercise?
  6. How many times a week do you eat fish?
  7. How many hours per night do you sleep?
  8. Do you make your bed everyday?
  9. Do you wash your hair everyday?
  10. Do you use just a bar of Soap, a wash cloth and Soap, shower gel and a wash cloth or shower gel and a pouf?

Okay, that’s all I can think of for right now. I reserve the right to ask more questions at a later date. Can you answer some or all of them for me? I’m really curious to know if I’m normal or a slob or have OCD. More than likely I fall into the slob category, though. Shut up, Mom!

    1. How often do you change your sheets? Once a week. After having pink eye this past weekend, however, I am considering changing them more often.
    2. How often do you change your bathroom towels? Every two days, daily if I am working out often.
    3. How often do you buy new pillows? Not often. I know – this is bad. I probably wait until they get flat. :)
    4. How often do you flip your mattress? Every six months. My mattress is relatively new so it’s about that time…
    5. How many minutes per week do you exercise? I aim for 45 minutes each shot.
    6. How many times a week do you eat fish? I am lucky if I eat it once a week.
    7. How many hours per night do you sleep? Sleep? What’s that?
    8. Do you make your bed everyday? Nope. I suppose if I get married I will have to…
    9. Do you wash your hair everyday? No – once a week. It’s that textured black girl thing where I’m not supposed to.
    10. Do you use just a bar of Soap, a wash cloth and Soap, shower gel and a wash cloth or shower gel and a pouf? Shower gel and a poof, unless I work out….then it’s regular bar Soap.

  2. Annie Jones says:

    1. How often do you change your sheets?
Usually weekly, but a few times a year I’ll go two weeks between.
    2. How often do you change your bathroom towels?
I have no idea, other than it’s not every time we use one. I’d say we use a towl 2-4 times before we toss it in the laundry.
    3. How often do you buy new pillows?
Not until I absolutely have to. I get used to a pillow and want only that one. Also, I have a contoured pillow and those are expensive to replace.
    4. How often do you flip your mattress?
Never. We have a Sleep Number bed and you don’t flip those.
    5. How many minutes per week do you exercise?
I don’t follow a formal exercise regimen. I hang laundry, mop the floor on my hands and knees, walk Kat to school sometimes, do gardening, etc. That’s my exercise.
    6. How many times a week do you eat fish?
Less than once a week on average. I’d say once or twice a month. We also eat shrimp about once a month.
    7. How many hours per night do you sleep?
Usually 7. Much more or less than that makes me feel like crap.
    8. Do you make your bed everyday?
Yes, I straighten our bed every day — pull up the sheets and the light blanket, then fold it all back so the bed airs out. Rarely do I make it up completely with comforter, all decorative pillows, etc.
    9. Do you wash your hair everyday?
No. I wash it maybe every third day, unless there is a reason I need to wash it more often. Sometimes I will wet it between washings, though, if it’s especially frizzy or has ponytail lines or something like that.
    10. Do you use just a bar of Soap, a wash cloth and Soap, shower gel and a wash cloth or shower gel and a pouf?
We are now making our own Soap, so it’s bar Soap for both hair and body. I don’t use a washcloth or pouf. Before we started making Soap, I used either body wash or shampoo for both hair and body.

1.How often do you change your sheets? Once a week; I have to because of allergies.
2.How often do you change your bathroom towels? Every couple of days.
3.How often do you buy new pillows? When needed. I have no idea.
4.How often do you flip your mattress? I have a Tempurpedic which doesn’t need to be flipped.
5.How many minutes per week do you exercise? At least 270 per week.
6.How many times a week do you eat fish? Um, most weeks? Not at all. Don’t like much fish.
7.How many hours per night do you sleep? Between 6 and 8. But I nap also when I can.
8.Do you make your bed everyday? No. I rarely make it.
9.Do you wash your hair everyday? Yes. I hate it when I don’t. Plus, the working out thing.
10.Do you use just a bar of Soap, a wash cloth and Soap, shower gel and a wash cloth or shower gel and a pouf? Shower gel and a pouf. I’ll never go back!

  4. Robin says:

    1. Usually once a week, sometimes every other.
    2. Every other.
    3. Not often enough, when they get flat.
    4. The one we have now has a pillow top so we can’t.
    5. I try to do 3-4, I normally do 1-2.
    6. Once maybe, I’d like to do more.
    7. I try for 8 but I usually get 6 or 7.
    8. I don’t but occasionally my husband does.
    9. Every single day except for days I am home all day, my hair gets so oily after 24 hours.
    10. I like the liquid Soap stuff with a pouf.

  5. Sybil Law says:

I come from Avitable’s, and see, “Give me a hand” and I think “hand job” – that man makes the internet all dirty!!
    Anyway:
    1. Change the sheets once a week, usually.
    2. I’ll use me towel about 3 times before I get a new one.
    3. I am a pillow person – I change them probably way too frequently. I guess it averages to about once a year.
    4. You pretty much just reminded me to flip the mattress.
    5. I don’t have any sort of exercise routine, so… no idea.
    6. Once?
    7. Never enough, I know that much. School starts Wednesday, so it’ll be about 5 hours of sleep a night if I’m lucky.
    8. I do make my bed every day.
    9. I am about every other day, but every day if I have a lot going on or important people to see.
    10. Poufs give me the willies – too full of germs!! I use a washcloth, face Soap, and extremely gentle Soap for my body.

  6. Shelli says:

@Robin–My co-worker, T, has that textured black hair thing and sometimes I look longingly at it. Especially when she gets it styled so beautifully and it lasts a week or longer. sigh

  7. Shelli says:

@Annie Jones–Pillows in general are expensive! How does one use bar Soap on hair? Can I say that you kind of amaze me?

  8. Shelli says:

@Finn–With the Tempurpedic, do you have pressure points? Right now, on my mattress, I have terrible pressure on my hips. I am considering getting a Tempurpedic when I’m rich and famous or maybe a sleep number, but until that happens, when I have more money, I might get a Tempurpedic mattress pad. I think I’ve seen them anyway.

  9. Shelli says:

@Robin–I’m with you on #8. If I don’t have to, I don’t, but if I’m going somewhere, I have to. Also, if I don’t, I look like the Bride of Frankenstein only with short hair.

  10. Shelli says:

@Sybil–He has a way of doing that, doesn’t he? Poufs are so luxurious, though!

  11. Annie Jones says:

Do I amaze you in a good way? Most people just think I’m weird for doing the “old-fashioned” stuff.

To wash my hair with bar Soap, I just make a lot of lather in my hands, set the bar down and work the suds into my hair. Same as with shampoo, only it isn’t quite as sudsy. I read about other people doing it, so I gave it a try.

My Mom said when she was a young girl, she and her sisters washed their hair with laundry Soap flakes (Soap, not detergent). I’m not sure how they did that.

  12. Shelli says:

@Annie–In a good way. I just wouldn’t have the energy or patience for it all.

  13. Carole Mallam says:

    1. How often do you change your sheets? every couple of weeks – don’t usually sleep on them – sleep on top of the coverlet.
    2. How often do you change your bathroom towels? Daily
    3. How often do you buy new pillows? Not often – like mine broke in the way it is.
    4. How often do you flip your mattress? Can’t flip it – it is a pillow top, but do vacuum it when I change the sheets
    5. How many minutes per week do you exercise? Never mind!!!!
    6. How many times a week do you eat fish? 2-3
    7. How many hours per night do you sleep? 5-7 or when my old body says enough is enough
    8. Do you make your bed everyday? ummm….yes
    9. Do you wash your hair everyday? generally
    10. Do you use just a bar of Soap, a wash cloth and Soap, shower gel and a wash cloth or shower gel and a pouf? Soap and washcloth

  14. Shelli says:

@Mom–Even at night you sleep on top of the spread??? Aren’t you cold? Why even bother changing sheets if you never use them. You could still come with me to the gym. I’m up there every night between 5:30 and 6:30. Except Tuesdays when it’s bound to be a little later because that’s my late night at work.
