Not really. Well, maybe.
Yesterday, I was on my way to work and I was driving down the boulevard near our house (not very fast, mind you, because in this frigid climate, we have something called “black ice” that is caused by exhaust from cars freezing on the road) when, all of a sudden, the hood of my truck flew open, obstructing my view. I pulled onto the nearest street (there is no shoulder on that road, unless you call the swamp on the side of the road a shoulder) and got out and shut the hood of the truck. I immediately realized what the problem was
I’m old. And forgetful. I forgot that when the temperature drops below a certain number, my loving husband plugs in the tank heater on my truck. To do this, he has to lift the hood and dig out the plug and plug it into the garage somewhere. I forgot to unplug it and shut the hood. Grr…
I called my husband and told him what happened. He was not happy with me. Especially because my hood had a “little” dent in it on the driver’s side. It was “little” from my perspective sitting behind the steering wheel, inside the warmth of my car. His displeasure with me caused me to send him the title of this post as a text and asking if he would have still been mad at me if I had been. He claims he wasn’t really mad. When I got home from work, I looked at it more closely and it is not little, the hood is bent on both sides of the hood, near the hinges. I was so sad and I feel really bad. It’s not like we are rich and can just drive it to the shop to be fixed right now. The whole thing is stupid and would be hilarious (in a Lucille Ball, Terri Hatcher sort of way) if it weren’t so disappointing.
Live and learn, I guess.

That sucks, glad you werent going too fast. It could have been ripped completely off if you’d been on the freeway.

But you could have been killed! I know we’re in a recession and all, but that’s okay. If he’s not angry with you, you shouldn’t be angry with yourself.

At least your ok. I have backed out of our driveway and knocked over garbage cans a few times. Husband gets upset, and then laughs all in one sentence. last time i did was last spring, and garbage went all over the street, when I went out to pick it up. Shawn looked me in the eyes and said very monotone like “Peg, just get to work. From that day on I didn’t knock them over… as much
I’m glad you are ok
It is sooo cold, NO ONE is looking at how people’s cars look just trying to get home into a warm house or work!
peace

I’m so glad you’re OK. I can imagine it just kills you to look at that dent. It’s those kind of things that make me sick to my stomach. The almost dying thing? No problem. But denting the car? Ugh.

That sucks. And not in the good way

I know how scary that can be on a sunny day with a dry roadway. Yikes! I was driving a ’66 Dodge Polara downhill at about 50mph when the hood popped open. Freaked.me.out. (and I was on the way to a job interview at the time)
Better to have dents in the hood than dents in Shelli!
I don’t understand the plug-in tank heater thing.

My friends water heater almost blew up last year, that was the scariest thing I’ve ever known!

Jessie–It scared the life out of me just being on the boulevard. I would probably have died if I had been on the freeway. Of a heart attack.
Peep–You’re probably right. He knows I feel bad enough for the both of us.
PeggyG–Oh, I’ve done that, too.
Finn–Exactly how I felt–sick to my stomach.
Peggy–OMG! Was it like a collector car in good condition? That would really have freaked me out.
Avitable–My husband tells me that it’s actually a frost plug heater. It heats the antifreeze to keep the engine warm so that the car will start in subzero temperatures. You probably don’t have a need for those in Florida. LOL
Holy crap! You really COULD have been killed! The bent up hood is certainly no big deal, when you compare it to what could have happened.
