So, I met this new friend, Simon. I think he actually found me through Fantastagirl. I really like his style of writing and his blog design rocks, too. Anyway, he does this thing where he gives himself a topic or a word and he writes a little essay of 100 words–no more, no less–about that subject. I thought it was awesome and so I asked him if I could steal it from him. He said that I could and then decided to make it into a carnival of sorts. You can find out more about it by clicking the little button. As I understand it, he will post them the word or topic on Mondays and then on Friday, he will post the submissions he gets or the links to them on his blog. All you have to do is trackback to the post listing the topic/word for the week or leave a comment on that post with your link or essay to let him know that you are playing. I think it is an awesome exercise to help hone your writing skills, or lack thereof. Anyway, here’s the button:
Here’s my 100 words:
“Sudden infant death syndrome” was what they said had taken her baby. It didn’t make it any less painful having that knowledge and she didn’t think that it was even possible for it to be any more painful. When she found out she was pregnant again, her heart was filled with both joy and trepidation. She survived the pregnancy and even through those first several months, almost like she was holding her breath. Today she exhaled. Today her baby reassured her that SIDS wouldn’t take him. Today he called her “Mama” and it was music to her ears. Sweet, sweet music.
The word was music.

Well done!

Simon–I enjoyed it. It was the very first thing that popped into my mind when I read the word “music”. Isn’t that weird? Trying to keep it at exactly 100 words was a challenge, but a fun one.
Cool idea, and cooler story! I didn’t see it coming, either.
I love your new autumnal look. Very peaceful and soothing to the eyeballs.
MM–Thank you. I like my new look, too!
Turnbaby–Thank you. On both accounts.
Suzi–Thank you. I liked doing it.
The new look is refreshing to me. It was fun to find something so different than I have had before.
