Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, meditations or whatever that you sent Lisa’s way. It must have worked because she is out of the hospital and, in fact, was able to go to the Bead Expo, which is really important to her because she makes jewelry. Look at this:
She made that for me and I got it in the mail yesterday. It’s purple for pancreatic cancer. I think the awareness for this deadly disease that took my Dad is growing because of the recent death of Gene Upshaw, Randy Pausch (the “Last Lecture” professor) and the recent diagnosis of Patrick Swayze (who is the same age as my Dad was when he died from the disease). I wish that they would treat all cancers, particularly the most deadly ones, the way that they treat breast cancer. Sometimes it seems like that is the only cancer that there is. Anyway, thank you, Lisa, and thank you, also, to all of you who were thinking of and praying for her. She could still use the prayers as she battles her rare, scary and terminal cancer.

This is going to sound a little crass, but since most doctors are male, and breast cancer is the most treated variety… what is the likelihood that it’s just a bunch of men trying to save the boobs?
Like I said, crass, but it seems reasonable.
Simons last blog post..The Numbers Game
Simon–That could be it, in part, I think. Also, I think that because, when caught early enough, it can be a very treatable cancer. Some of the others–ovarian, pancreatic, etc.–have less favorable results no matter when they are detected. I say that those cancers that are more difficult to treat should then get even more attention and funding for research. But, I’m biased, having had a Dad who died of pancreatic cancer.
Yeah… I suppose I was making lighter of the subject than I ought. I’ve lost two family members and a very close friend to cancer, as well, and sometimes being humorous about it is the only way to forget how terrible it is that it happened.
*sighs*
Simons last blog post..The Numbers Game
Simon–I know. You made me smile.
I am hoping that all cancers can find a cure. From what I have understood from family, friends, and literature, cancer is no way to die. Many times the last days of your life are painful, and you get morphine or other narcotics at will to ease the pain. I mean shit, the drug box is open for any family member to push a button for more meds to intravenously inject into a family members body to provide the most comfort possible. That being said, this is NO WAY for any person to die. Npt to mention the financial toll on a family. An Awareness of all types of cancer would be beneficial to all. Why? To be honest until it happens to someone close to you, our society is ignorant to the types, causes, treatments, where to go, etc..
I mean can one really list all the cancers out there without being in the medical profession?
Let’s see, i am a pretty smart gal and here is what I know:
CANCERS
lung
breast
esophagus
skin
brain
pancreas
testicle
colon (only because of Katie Couric)
I could name more, just not off the top of my head, and that is the point I am trying to make. The average joe hasn’t a clue what is out there, me being included. Forgive me.
EAch color should be represented EVERYWHERE right along the pink breast cancer merchandise. EAch store could have a whole shelf with all the cancers listed and the merchandise it sells.
ok, here is a question from me?
What are all the colors to the each specific cancer?
Is the yellow mean all cancers?
Oh, and the yellow color became noticeable due to Lance Armstrong-a CELEBRITY who made us aware. sad state of affairs if you ask me.
Just my thoughts
Sincerely, PeggyG
I had cervical cancer back in 2000. Cancer sucks. I am glad your friend is out of the hospital and creating beautiful things. Remember the survivor motto…”courage, wisdom, strength”. I wear it around my neck everyday.
CPs last blog post..Ta DAHHHHHHHH!!! I’m back, bitches!
The beads are just beautiful!!! I bet you were happy with them. I will say a prayer for your friend Lisa. God bless.
The jewelry is beautiful. Is it a necklace? Or a bracelet?
Either way, very nice.
Jannas last blog post..This must be how it works
My heart has been hurting so deeply for her. She’s a beautiful person, a beautiful Mom, a beautiful wife and so obviously talented and creative. That bracelet is beautiful.
I’ve definitely been praying for her.
I had acinic cell carcinoma 9 years ago, and they were really on top of it as far as my treatment was concerned. I heard another cancer survivor say that it’s all about the stats… they devote their energy to the really treatable cancers so that they have a better cure rate (not that I’m complaining, by any means!).
It’s depressing for the tough cancers like pancreatic… people can and do survive it, but it’s rough, and you’re even more in need of the support of the cancer agencies.
