Frost On The Pumpkins

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Okay, so we don’t really have any pumpkins around here. At least not ones that are ripe. But yesterday morning? We had frost on our windshields. Not the kind that needed scraping, (well, at least I didn’t scrape it off, I used my wipers) but it was there, nonetheless. I love this time of year. I love the colors that will be coming in the next few weeks. I love the smell in the air. Especially on weekends when people are raking during the day and having bonfires at night.

It must be a reason that I picked this time of year to get married. We had the most amazing weather on the day of our wedding. It was just the perfect temperature. Not too hot so that the bride fainted at the alter, but not too cold so that we couldn’t take some photographs outside. We even went to a beautiful park and had some pictures taken there. It was one of those clear-blue-sky kind of days. (Not blue as in bluepaintred, but blue as the color. I couldn’t find a way–other than disabling my plugin for this post–to use the word blue without it coming up with the hidden words for her name. Oh well.)

For our honeymoon, we traveled north to a cabin that the physician that I worked for let us use. It was amazing. The colors in the northern part of the state at this time of the year are nothing less than spectacular. We did a lot of four wheeling up there in the abandoned iron ore mines. It was amazing incredible. (I am running out of superlatives.)

Last year we went up to Duluth for our anniversary. We had been there before on our 5th anniversary. I love it up there. I would move there if I could convince Jason to. Maybe when we retire. It is so beautiful and it has the small town feeling with some of the big city amenities. It is a very popular convention town. And Lake Superior is super-de-dooper. (I don’t know, it’s awesome, okay? ;) ) We didn’t have as nice of time as we could have last year because the accommodations were less than we expected. Plus, I was feeling less than perfect at this time last year for various reasons.

We are going again. Yesterday morning, Jason texted this to me:

I am excited about Duluth.

I told him that I was too. That I am looking forward to spending time alone with him. I know it was just a few months ago that we went to Jamaica, but this will be just the two of us. I know it will be fun and peaceful and relaxing. I even enjoy the car rides with him. The hotel that we are staying at this year is highly rated, so we won’t have a repeat of last year in that respect. At least I hope not.

It will be 17 years that we have been married on September 29 and that’s when we will be in Duluth. However, on October 15 of this year, it will be 25 years since we first started dating. 25 years! I have known him over half of my life and all of my adult life. We have grown up together. Now we are growing old together.
