Today…

…this girl:

emily.jpg

will be able to drive a car.

Where the hell did the time go?

Last Friday, she got her braces off (or “bracelets” as Isabelle calls them). This past weekend, she and her team mates played awesomely and they took 3rd place in a mid-season tournament. And today, she will be able to legally drive a car when either her Dad or I am present. That’s not to say she will be driving a car anytime soon, but legally she could. That’s if she passes the test. Just kidding, Emily. I know you will pass and yes, we will let you drive the car. Up the driveway.

    LMAO @ up the driveway.

i am sure with Jason’s and your help she will become an EXCELLENT driver!

    (way to go Em!)

  2. Suzi says:

Happy Birthday to Emily, and my condolences to you. Teaching Kelly to drive has caused me to suffer at least five strokes.

And yay! I can comment again. I haven’t been able to since that time I told you I could. After that, I was back to no submit button. Weirdness!

  3. Mr. Fabulous says:

Let’s hope she gets her driving genes from Jason :)

  4. Charlotte says:

    Happy birthday to Emily!

A driving kid scares the hell out of me!! lol

  5. Blogarita says:

My Mom couldn’t wait for me to get my license so she didn’t have to haul my little brother or me around anymore! I felt more or less the same way when Artsy got her license.

    Happy Birthday Emily!

  6. Finn says:

Happy Birthday Emily! Your parents want you to drive slow on the driveway because they’re getting old and that’s all the excitement they can handle in a 24-hour period.

Don’t worry — I’ll fly up there, we’ll rent a convertible and go pick up some hot guys.

Did I type that out loud? :d

  7. Erin says:

Such a cute little girl!! And you have to let her drive!!! Of course that is coming from a Mom of a 4 year old – so I don’t have to worry about it yet, lol

  8. Peggy says:

Who the heck gave these kids permission to grow up so fast anyway? It certainly wasn’t me!
Funny–one of my earliest thoughts when Cameron was born, after verifying that all 20 fingers and toes were present and accounted for, was:
“I only have 15-1/2 years to get ready to be the mother of a teen-age boy driver – YIKES!” Ok – I fully accept that is a VERY weird thought to be having when he was only minutes old, but that’s what happened!

    Happy Birthday, Emily!<:-p

  9. Carolyn says:

    Happy Birthday Emily!

I fully expect she’ll be a wonderful driver – perhaps already better than me!

If she masters the driveway you could have her drive the short distance over to our new house (open invitation – we’d love to give you a tour whenever the time is good for you & Jason).

    Hugs,
    -Carolyn

  10. It happens so fast!!!

  11. Happy birthday Emily.

I remember my first driving lesson — with my Dad. Where did the time go…?

  12. Doctor Mom says:

It does go waaaay too fast!
I’m looking at my middle child taking drivers ed beginning next week.

Isn’t there a way we can stop this from happening?

    Happy Birthday to Emily

  13. Shelli says:

Blue–Thanks. She will be fine, I think. I hope.

  14. Shelli says:

Suzi–Oh God! I am sure I will have some strokes, too.

I don’t understand the whole commenting thing.

  15. Shelli says:

Fab–Har de har har har! :P

  16. Shelli says:

Charlotte–Me, too. If you come to the Twin Cities in the near future, don’t be on the roads. LOL

  17. Shelli says:

    Blogarita–It has it’s advantages.

  18. Shelli says:

Finn–Do not corrupt my daughter! :)

  19. Shelli says:

    Erin–Yeah! You just wait. :D

  20. Shelli says:

Peggy–That is weird. lol My first thought when they showed me Emily (she was the only one of my kids who was born by c-section), I think I even said it out loud, “Are you sure that you got her from me?” She had a ton of dark hair. My first didn’t have hair until she was five. I am not kidding. She was one of the baldest children I have ever seen. She has thick curly hair now. Anyway, I digress. It’s funny the things that we think of.

  21. Shelli says:

Carolyn–That would be awesome. I want to get over there to check it out.

  22. Shelli says:

MuttPrincess–Why is that? It seems the older I get the faster time goes. gak!

  23. Shelli says:

CK–I remember driving with my Mom. And my grandpa. I learned to drive on a stick. There were plenty of times when I killed the thing.

  24. Shelli says:

    DoctorMom–I don’t think so. It’s all a part of life, I guess.

  25. kat says:

The best thing about kids getting their license is being able to send THEM to the store when you run out of something in the middle of cooking dinner. Good luck to Emily, pass that test!

  26. Catch says:

Happy Birthday Emily!!! WHat a precious picture of her!! Such a beautiful little girl who is growing up into a beautiful young lady!
