Meme Monday #27; Zzzzz…
The other day, it occurred to me, as I was falling asleep, that I have a lot of weird before bed rituals and/or sleeping habits. I thought it would be fun to see what things other people do, while getting ready to sleep and/or while sleeping, that is a little odd. I picked the number 6 not because that was all I could come up with for myself, I think I could come up with many more, but because no one ever uses the number 6 for memes. It’s always 5 or 4 or 7, but never 6. What do people have against that number? After I tell you what my weird sleeping habits are, I am going to tag everyone that I can think of. Why? Because I invented this meme and I want it to go all over the Internet. So spread the meme love around. I beg you.
6 Weird things I do while getting ready to sleep or while sleeping:
1. I have two pillows and they have to be in a v-shape. They also need to be cold. I don’t like a pillow to be warmed up. I frequently switch around my pillows, flip them and fluff them during the night.
2. I mostly sleep in shirts and shorts type pajamas, but I don’t like my legs to feel skin on skin. Consequently, I have to have my own blanket so that I have enough blanket to put in between my legs. Oh and it can’t just be any material either. It has to be 100% cotton and not the flannely kind either. The kind that they use for quilt pieces. That kind. I am not sure what it is called–poplin? calico? Anyway, it has to be that kind because it also has to be cold. I can’t have warmed up sheets or blankets either. I also tend to cocoon in my blanket. Another reason why I have to have my own. If it is cold, I will have Jason’s blanket (our comforter for our bed) just thrown over me.
3. If I get up before I fall asleep but after I have already been settled in (for example to go to the bathroom or get something to drink), when I come back to bed, I have to sleep the opposite way that I was sleeping before I got out of bed. For instance, I only sleep on my side or sometimes partially on my side and partially on my stomach. If I was facing the door when I left the bed (or sat up), I have to face the other way when I get settled back into bed. I don’t know why. OCD? Maybe.
4. Even when it is unbearably hot, I cannot sleep if I do not have a blanket tucked in around at least my neck. It can’t be a sheet either. It isn’t heavy enough. The blanket has to have some weight, like a light quilt or something similar. No fleece or flannel if it is hot. Do you want me to die?
5. While I am going to sleep, I rub my feet together. Or I rub one of them on the bed. Gently. The funny thing about this is that my Mom does it, my Dad use to do it, Ashley does it, Isabelle does it and I think Emily maybe even does it. It is a self soothing behavior.
6. I don’t just talk in my sleep. I scream in my sleep. I yell in my sleep. I cry in my sleep. I scare my kids and my husband sometimes with my sleep/dream antics. It is usually a dream of great stress when I do these things. I usually wake up because of it and almost always my heart is pounding.
I could have come up with a ton more. I am weird. At least when it comes to sleeping.

you sure have weird getting-ready-to-bed rituals. I have mine too, more ridiculous than yours so I might as well keep it to myself. :d

Thanks Shelli, but I don’t know if I really want to share my sleeping habits with the whole world. Can I skip this one?

How does your husband get any sleep???
June 18th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Those are pretty specific rules! So you start going to bed by 7 and finally get truly comfy by 10?…|-)

I’m also a year-round duvet person. We also have seperate blankets. I mean, it’s romantic to be under one blanket and all, but come on, we’re all adults here. I also can’t deal with warm pillows.
But I don’t rub my feet together. That’s INSANE.
And I don’t talk in my sleep. Honey does. One night, while we were sleeping, after we watched “Once Upon a Time in China,” she punched me in the head and then she mumbled, “Kong Fu Master.”

I should have the Fiancee fill this one out for me. Apparently I’m more interesting after I fall asleep, but I’ll get into that with the reply

June 18th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
metalmom–More like 11 and 1. Unfortunately.
June 18th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
PitS–We have had a separate blanket policy for a long time. He got tired of ending up with no blanket while I was wrapped up like a burrito in our shared blanket. When my granddaughter (remember I am only going to be 40, I am VERY young
) was born, she had a little blister on one of her feet from rubbing them together in utero. I called her Cricket for awhile.
June 18th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
Todd–I can’t wait!! Maybe you both could do it. See how they differ.
June 18th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Libragirl–I will try really hard. I’m sad that I keep missing you.
