When we first got married, before that even, it was tradition to have the New Year’s Eve party at our house every year. Then one year, someone else had it. I was pissed off. Until that night and then I realized that I could go home and go to sleep whenever I wanted. I didn’t have to wait for everyone to leave or worry about anyone drinking too much at my house and then driving home nor did I have to try to find them a place to sleep it off in my home. It was much better. I don’t think that we have had one since.
Since then, we have always gone to one or another of Jason’s siblings or a friend’s house. We all hung out together during and after high school, so it seems like we have always been friends. After we got married and had kids, it became a tradition for the kids to go to Jason’s parent’s house and have a huge party. They look forward to it every year. They really enjoy themselves there while we are enjoying ourselves elsewhere and then we don’t have to worry about getting them home. They are safely tucked into bed at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house sometime after midnight.
This year, Jason and I have decided to buck the tradition and try something new. The kids will still be going to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house, but we will not be celebrating with Jason’s siblings and friends. We are staying home alone together. We are going to have steak and crab legs with baked potatoes and salad and probably some good garlic bread. For after dinner, we have arranged for Netflix to deliver some movies for us to watch. I am looking forward to the peace and tranquility of it just being the two of us. Maybe this will be the start of a new tradition.
Happy New Year, my friends!

Awesome Shelli! You and Jason will have a great time! Dont forget your edible underwear!!!!! lol
no kids hawt movies = GOOOODDDDDDD times
You better have ordered Talledega Nights or so help me God…
I think you have a great idea! We’ll be doing something similar, only without the steak dinner and with Sparky here. But we’ll still have our requisite bottle of cheap champagne. No doubt we’ll drink it around 9:00 or 10:00 and be fast asleep before midnight.
That sounds like a great idea. Have an “awesome” time. (wink wink)
I am going to my friends house and hang out with her and her husband and her evil kids really, they are evil. You know the picture on Pointless Directives, that’s her kids. I hate her kids which sounds awful, but hanging out with them, reasons I don’t want kids. Yeah, my New Years eve is gonna rock.
Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate!
Excellent idea! New Year’s Eve is amateur night anyway. Enjoy!
definitely more fun the way you’re planning it!
That sounds like heaven. We are “grandma’s house”. Pap and I provide balloons on the ceiling, an enormous dress up box, feathered boas, party hats and kid approved munchies. We usually have to mock up a count down around 9:30 though, my crowd doesn’t have much staying power.
Sounds like a perfect way to ring in the New Year. Have a wonderful time and Happy New Year!!
I’ve got an awesome recipe for Shrimp Stuffed Potatoes–it’s linked to my blog post “Feed My Frankenstein”. We did it for Christmas dinner dividing the recipe in half and the potatoes were still enormous.
That sounds like the perfect New Years to me. Hope you crazy kids have a great time!
