We Survived!
Monday, July 17th, 2006After spending Friday night, most of Saturday and Sunday morning in nearly 100 degree temps. that felt much hotter than that and surviving a thunderstorm that lasted 30 minutes with all of us standing or sitting near an incredible amount of metal during which the game was delayed, we lost and were eliminated from the rest of the tournament. They didn’t finish first, but they didn’t finish last, either. In fact, of about 32 teams, they landed somewhere right in the middle, about 16th place. Not too bad. Especially since some of the teams that were playing in the tournament were actually 16 and under teams that played down to the 14 and under bracket for the tournament. It gave us a little taste of what we would face next year when we move up to the 16 and under age group.
The most important thing is that the girls had a great time. They never want it to end. After the last game, the coaches always treat the girls to Dairy Queen, and we damn near have to drag them away from each other while they are kicking and screaming. Not really, but let’s just say that we had a grumpy girl on our hands when we had to be one of the first to leave. Of course, it could have been that she was tired, since one of her team mates had slept overnight because she needed a ride, bright and early, to the game and then just the exhaustion from playing in that heat. I told them not to stay up late, but you know how teenage girls are. Consequently, when we got home, our girl was crashed in front of the TV watching (or more correctly not watching), of course, the USA World Cup of Softball.
